With the USD (Universal Scene Description) as the file format and workflow that many game and film industries are moving towards for managing 3D model assets, some tools like Houdini and 3D Max have that built into their native software, but I wanted to highlight how Maya can work with USD files. The Multiverse USD is the solution that works directly with Maya and it's available for free. There's a pro version that can be purchased with a subscription, but the free version can also be used commercially and includes monthly updates.
