IKEA's AR experiments show the potential of Apple Glass
If augmented reality is the future, this is a glimpse of what's coming. IKEA and its external research lab SPACE10 have curated 18 different digital experiences from design and technology studios as part of a new web-based platform called Everyday Experiments.

Everyday Experiments is our ongoing series of digital experiments with IKEA which challenge the role of technology in the home. What it can help us with, and how much fun can we have with it. It aims to take the everyday and make it extraordinary.

Analysis
IKEA and Space10's experiments in their project showcase the use of AR for redefining the spaces and objects in one's home in ways beyond that are physically capable. The integration of other emerging technologies, like machine learning and artificial intelligence, with AR takes the experience even further than a static visualization. To me, the captivating aspect of this project is that the end user become the creator of their experience by interacting with the application and modifying the reality around them as seen through the visualization portal. And while AR can be experienced through a mobile device as a starting point, these experiences can seamlessly translate across to the emerging platforms of immersive head-mounted displays (HMDs).
