Analysis

This collaboration among 8th Wall, Mawari, and Yellock is phenomenal on many levels. First and foremost, it's hosted on a WebAR platform, so it's much more accessible than a dedicated app installed on one's mobile device. Secondly, the AR experience is really immersive, even through a mobile phone, because it guides one to activate the experience in a dark physical environment so that the AR elements of lights are so much more pronounced. Furthermore, the simple and easy-to-use user interface (UI) is responsive and effective. The 3 images below are screen captures from my experience of exploring it, and the video below is linked from 8th Wall's YouTube channel. The white rectangle and dot at the bottom of the screen control the color of lights exhibited in the AR experience. Note the different colors based on the different locations of the white dot within the bounds of the rectangle. To me, this is quite a clever UI element that doesn't take much for a user to recognize as an interactive element and it doesn't distract from the AR experience. What I take from this exemplary project is the simplicity of the UI and taking advantage of a darkened environment to highlight the AR experience and make it more immersive for the user.
